U.S. Citizenship Class 28, Fall 2018, Milpitas Adult School

Huong's daughter practices with Teacher Jennifer so that Huong can prepare for her Citizenship Interview while she is taking care of her son in the hospital.

N-400
  • An “Everyday” Citizenship Interview based on the USCIS N-400 (51qs, 2pgs) (updated 06/12/2016)

    • pdf http://goo.gl/Nt0bOf (6:10-6:30 let the students read the appropriate question for each slide; then divide students into pairs and let them interview each other; monitor their progress; pass out 10-12 red civics flash so they can quiz each other after the interview--this approximates the citizenship interview)
    • Equipment note: you may need to more the video cable back and forth between the computer and the document camera.  Simply unplug the cable and move it to the correct port.  I will mark the port.  If there is a problem, please ask another teacher.

Civics
  • Voices of Freedom by Bill Bliss Ch.8 The Constitution and Federalist Period (pg 125-143)
    • 6:30-7:30 students take turns reading the textbook aloud 
      • display the textbook via the document camera!
    • complete the exercises in the textbook page by page, then review together as a class before moving on to the next page.  Focus on oral, rather than written practice.  (copies will be provided)
    • Complete the Unit summary lesson (separate handout)
  • Preparing the Oath: Writing the Constitution
    • 8:00-8:15 watch the videos after completing the textbook and handouts
      • play the videos via the computer

    • 8:15-8:35 allow students enough time to complete the quiz, then orally review the answers
