Chicago Violist Plays National Anthem at Her Own Naturalization Ceremony

WFMT: Chicago Violist Plays National Anthem at Her Own Naturalization Ceremony

Carol Cook has played in the Lyric Opera of Chicago viola section for nearly a decade. One year she took a sabbatical for a position in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Recently she was promoted to principal viola of the Lyric Opera orchestra. The one bit of unfinished business was becoming a U.S. citizen. Chicago is home for this Scottish fiddler and violist; so the minute she became eligible, she applied for citizenship. On Monday, July 22nd, being American became a reality. A happy surprise for the dozens of other applicants taking the oath that day, Carol treated them to a world-class live performance of the Star Spangled Banner.
