Milpitas Adult School's Citizenship Class 31


Monday, December 5, we kicked off our week of CASAS testing. On Tuesday, our citizenship students put aside the Voices of Freedom textbooks, and took assigned Life/Work ESL assessments plus the Citizenship Listening test (965/965). Early Birds also completed the CIT (mock interview) speaking assessment. Here are the links to sample assessments are below:


The ESL students also participate in three EL Civics Objectives; this semester, ESL 1, 2, 3 participated in individual mock citizenship interviews (COAPPS 40) and ESL 4, 5, Transition did group projects exploring Voting Rights (COAPPS 39). On Election Day, we successfully hosted our own mock election. For more info about EL Civics, see:


Each EL Civics objective has specific language and literacy objectives. For example, Objective #40: students respond correctly to questions about the history and government of the United States in order to be successful in the naturalization process
