The Cabrini Pledge

USCCB: The Cabrini Pledge

Mother Cabrini was the first American saint. She came from Italy to the U.S. She helped immigrants and poor people, even when life was very hard.

The Cabrini Pledge asks us to remember that everyone has the same dignity. The Church teaches us to welcome strangers, feed the hungry, and care for the sick.

Today, many immigrants still face problems. The Cabrini Pledge reminds us to give hope, show mercy, and work for the good of all people.

I PLEDGE:

  • To affirm, in word and deed, the inherent dignity of every person, regardless of immigration status or country of origin, seeing each as a child of God before all else.

  • To engage with Scripture and the Church’s social teaching, reflecting on the role of migration in salvation history, the history of the United States, and the history of my own family.

  • To listen and learn about the circumstances facing migrants and refugees, including those in my community, with an open heart and mind.

  • To seek opportunities for encounter, so as to grow in deeper understanding and communion that leads to an authentic solidarity with those in need.

  • To consider what it means to be a good neighbor and how I am called to reflect the love and hope of Christ to others.

  • To encourage civic dialogue that places the human person and the sanctity of families at the center of policymaking, especially toward the end of meaningful immigration reform.

  • To join with Pope Leo in praying for all migrants and refugees as fellow travelers on the journey to our true homeland.

The NEW 2025 Naturalization Civics Test!

 updated 2025-09-28

One Nation, One People (2025 Version)

After a long wait, the 2025 Naturalization Civics Test has arrived!  Here is a summary of Federal Register Notice: Implementation of the 2025 Naturalization Civics Test (9/18/2025 source) plus more resources for the new civics test.

  • USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) will start using the 2025 Naturalization Civics Test.

  • This test is based on the 2020 version of the civics test, but with one small change.

  • The English test (reading, writing, speaking) does not change.

Key Points about the Civics Test:

  • Applicants must show knowledge of U.S. history and government.

  • The 2020 test had:

    • 128 questions in the study bank (instead of 100 in 2008).

    • Applicants were asked 20 questions in the interview.

    • Applicants needed 12 correct answers to pass.

  • The 2025 test will keep this format.

Small Change in 2025 Test:

  • In 2020, officers had to ask all 20 questions even if the applicant already passed.

  • In 2025, officers will stop once:

    • The applicant answers 12 questions correctly (pass), OR

    • The applicant answers 9 questions incorrectly (fail).

Who takes which test?

  • If you applied before or within 30 days of this notice → You take the 2008 test.

  • If you apply 30 days or more after this notice → You take the 2025 test.

  • Special rule for people 65 or older with 20+ years as permanent residents:

    • They take only 10 questions from a smaller set of 20.

    • They need 6 correct answers to pass.
