Happy Cesar Chavez Day!

USCIS 100:51. What are two rights of everyone living in the United States?

UFW: Cesar Chavez: Embrace the Legacy (5 min. UFW video)
Learn about the legacy of Cesar Chavez from Martin Sheen, Edward James Olmos, Edward James Olmos and others and get involved in keeping Cesar's dream alive!

Cesar Chavez started the United Farm Workers union, because farmworkers did not have "the legal right to organize and to vote for collective bargaining. They didn't have the right to have clean drinking water, access to portable toilets, lunch breaks, or short rest breaks during workdays. And they were not entitled to the minimum wage or unemployment insurance."

USCIS 100:51. What are two rights of everyone living in the United States?

  • freedom of expression
  • freedom of speech
  • freedom of assembly
  • freedom to petition the government
  • freedom of worship
  • the right to bear arms

      Happy Easter

      March 25, 2016
Statement by President Obama on Easter

Michelle and I join our fellow Christians in observing Good Friday and celebrating Easter this weekend. This is a time to remember the sacrifices made for us and hold all who suffer close to our hearts. Yet it is also a time to rejoice, give thanks for the Resurrection, and unite with Christians around the world in proclaiming, "Christ has risen; He has risen indeed." We wish all who celebrate a blessed and joyful Easter.

        VOANews: Explainer: Supreme Court Justices

These days, very few people get lifelong appointments to their jobs. But in the U.S., some of the highest court judges have this privilege and responsibility. Currently, there is a public debate on the significance of these life appointments in the Judicial Branch. Experts are calling for a Constitution reform, hoping to get fixed terms authorized for these positions. How does this process work?

Candidates’ Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Driving Push for US Citizenship

VOANews: Candidates’ Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Driving Push for US Citizenship

A contentious U.S. presidential campaign, including anti-immigrant rhetoric from candidates like Donald Trump, is driving many immigrants who are permanent residents to become American citizens in order to be able to vote in the election. Ahead of Tuesday's Florida primary, VOA correspondent Aru Pande traveled to Miami, where immigrants' interest in ensuring their voices are heard is high.
